What is Cellulite?
Cellulite is a condition experienced by 80-90% of women.
Cellulite is NOT an accumulation of fat, in fact the fat content in cellulite is normal, it is rather caused by a metabolic change within the fat cells, resulting in an alteration of the connective tissue structure. This can happen in normal, overweight or even thin people.
What treatments are available for Cellulite?
As yet, medical science has discovered no cure for Cellulite.
HOWEVER, medical science has shown that Cellulite is always related to venous 'blood flow' congestion, and in very many cases lymph congestion too.
Therefore (MLD) Manual Lymphatic Drainage can be seen as an effective treatment method of Cellulite, absolutely free of side effects.
Cellulite in Summary
Cellulite has several predisposing factors i.e. gender, race, biotype, circulatory and lymphatic insufficiency.
The first three of these obviously, cannot be changed.
MLD however IS a highly effective treatment for circulatory and lymphatic insufficiency, and therefore highly indicated in the treatment of Cellulite.
What is involved in a Cellulite Massage?
The treatment will always commence with a consultation with your therapist to ascertain your suitability for treatment and gauge your own expectations.
Your therapist will then assess your condition and match the treatment plan to those findings.
The treatment itself will vary a little dependant on these aforementioned findings. However treatment itself will actually begin with treatment to the neck & shoulders, followed by treatment to the abdomen and then the bulk of the treatment time will be spent working around the hips & thighs. The techniques used are light, slow, rhythmic and deeply relaxing movements all used to stimulate lymph flow and enhance venous return, and remember poor venous return is always apparent with Cellulite.
The treatment time is approx 55 minutes, and is deeply relaxing and pain free.
